An Inspirational Montana Home

I had the pleasure of photographing a friend's home this month. Her style was one of the first to influence and inspire me 15 years ago. And even though I have never seen her current home or even seen an old home of hers since maybe 10 years ago, I have always been inspired by her style.

Finally, after all this time I took a trip over to Bozeman to photograph her home and HOLY SMOKES...was it BEAUTIFUL! They moved into this home about 6 years ago with their 4 sweet little girls and have been renovating it since. She is a true minimalist! Every closet was empty and only small dressers held all their clothes. No. clutter. anywhere! It makes me realize just how little we actually need.

And if that doesn't inspire you, she has collecting everything in this house from garage sales and craigslist! Yes...that sofa...those leather chairs...EVERYTHING!

So enough of what I think...here is some inspiration directly from the creator of this gorgeous home:

"I have always had a deep longing for meaningful things in my life...faith, family, relationships and beauty. Space is important in my relationships; not filling my life with busy-ness. This choice trickles down to every part of my life including our home and my decorating style. Simplicity....keeping the main things the main things...can be so beautiful. Put one or two beautiful pieces in a room and I am hooked! Before bringing anything into our home I ask myself "is this useful or beautiful?" 90% of the things in our home are from Craigslist or garage sales. But this doesn't mean that I scrimp, cut corners, buy "cheap" or imitation. I believe in buying what I really LOVE. I love authenticity and quality. I am not afraid of space in my home. I leave a room undone until I find the perfect piece that I can afford. For example, I love vintage fabrics. Recently I bought 2 antique Turkish rugs off of Etsy. Neither were "cheap" but I know they will serve my family well and grow with my style. Real style and beauty develop over time. Its not a race but a slow deliberate journey. So my home is filled with space...some space I hope to fill one day and some space I treasure and will never give up. "

4 girls, and all of their clothes...ALL of their clothes are in that little cupboard and drawers.

Candice has sewn everything in her house from the pillows to the curtains to the couch slipcover.

I hope this inspires you as much as it did me!

  13. I adore this home, I really would like it if this homeowner could give some real life pointers on being minimalist! I mean she has got to be the epitome with 4 little girls and the cupboard and dresser holds ALL their clothes, oh do ask her to give suggestions in the least if not a blog! My favorite is her stove and the Aqua ladder up against it my kind of beauty!

  16. Hmm. Definitely a humble existence, done tastefully and with much restraint. More restraint than I could ever practice. I must be surrounded by Chintzware plates and flowered sunhats on the walls, artwork from Laguna Beach, antique medicine bottles and such, and of course, vintage lace and linens draped everywhere possible! Gazing at this beautiful home, done in mostly white, makes me mildly anxious. No idea why.

  17. Wow, it is gorgeous! Makes me want to seriously de-clutter the clutter suffocating me. I am in love with the Edison bulb over the dining table and what looks like copper tubing. Beautiful and so tastefully done.

  19. This is so beautiful and peaceful. I have to ask about books (I only saw one container) and toys or hobbies. We're striving toward a simpler existence and have much we can get rid of, but there are always the books. And the varied hobbies of 7 people under one roof. I'd love to know the secret to keeping it so simple.

  23. STUNNING!! We were already looking at both skimming stone and calamine- I couldn't believe both were used in this home! We are more sure than ever that they are perfect colors for us! Any idea what color that other bedroom is?

  24. Oh my goodness... I have to tell you this story because it's crazy to me. I live in Bozeman and was so excited last year to buy a set of theater seats off of Craigslist. And it was from your friend, in this house. I walked up to the house and I felt like I was coming home. She led me through the house and I was absolutely stunned and wanted to stop and take in all my surroundings. And, no joke, my very first thought was "this house should be featured on Vintage Whites". And it already was!! I can't get over this. The house was for sale at the time and I desperately wished I could buy it. If you get around to it, please convey this to your friend. She was encouraging to me as I was pregnant with my fourth child and she had four kids older than my own. What a fantastic home, and just a fun and surreal experience for me. (And those fantastic theater seats are still my favorite thing in my home!!)
